‘DIA DI BANDABOU’ – ‘BANDABOU DAY’.  THIS COUNTRY- SIDE CALLED LOW LAND (still mountainous) HAS THE BEST OUTSTANDING CULTURAL HERITAGE TO OFFER  FROM THE ENTIRE ISLAND OF CURACAO. THE COUPLING WITH OTHER CULTURAL WEEK-EVENTS– I REMEMBER DAYS THAT WENT CELEBRATING WITH ‘BANDABOU’ EVENTS.

WHAT’S PLEASANT IS STROLLING DOWN THE IMPROVISED MARKET SITES- LISTENING TO  AUTHENTIC MUSIC- WITH  GROUPS PLAYING AROUND, THE SMELL AND COOKING DELIGHT AND SPECTACULAR  CULTURAL SHOWS WITH

on stickARTS , CRAFTS AND GREEN MARKETS. ON DIFFERENT STREET CORNERS THERE IS AN ACTIVITY GOING ON AND  PEOPLE ARE HAVING THEIR GARDEN-GATES OPEN FOR SELLING BARBECUES AND OTHER COZY STUFF.

BEING THERE, SAVORING MY ‘KABRITU-‘(GOAT) SOUP ,  I REMEMBERED BANDABOW’S OTHER  SKILLS IT OFFERS.  IT HAS THE BEST MECHANICS, WELDERS, PLUMBERS, CARPENTERS, SKILLED FISHERMEN AND BOAT-BUILDERS PLUS AGRICULTURAL WORKERS. ALSO MAKERS OF SWEETS LIKE COCONUT & PEANUT CANDIES, COCONUT OILS, CALABASH  HEALING AILMENTS, EXOTIC GARDEN PLANTERS AND HERB-HEALERS, UNIQUE ANTIQUE BUILDERS, OUTDOORS BAKE-OVEN- AND BREAD MAKERS , THE OLD DAYS UTENSIL TIN-MAKERS  (at Pali Maishi Museum) DRESS MAKERS., WOODCARVERS, HAND-CRAFTS AND THERE IS MORE.

ON BANDABOW’S FIRST BLOG PAGE WAS MENTIONED THE STORY TELLERS, PLANTERS (PEANUTS, BIG BANANAS, SWEET POTATOES, RED BEETS, EGG PLANTS, TOMATOES, LETTUCE, LONG BEANS LITTLE CUCUMBERS, LITTLE CORN, PUMPKINS AND ALL KIND OF HERB AND LOTS MORE. FRUIT TREES CONSIST OF COURSE THE COCONUT, CASHEWS, FIGS, CHERRIES, MANGOES, GUYANA’S, MELONS, ETC.

FROM THE CULTURAL IDENTITIES MUST MENTION THE BEST DRUM DANCERS AND PROTEST SINGERS!  (DOCUMENTED). THE BEST MAINTAINED CREOLE-PAPIAMENTU (LITERARY MEANS TO TALK) AT BEST DOCUMENTED.  THE OLD STYLE LANDHOUSE-MUST MENTION THE CENTERED ‘TULA'( FIRST REBELLIOUS SLAVE) MUSEUM AT KNIP-BAY  WHERE YOU CAN FIND OVERALL BANDABOU-HISTORIES. THAT’S THE SOUTH WEST. THERE ARE LOTS MORE LAND HOUSES AND OLD STYLE FURNITURE TO ADMIRE ON THE WHOLE ISLAND AND OLD CHURCHES AS WELL.

THEN THE BEST NATURE FREE BEACHES LIKE KNIP, LAGUN, JEREMI, WESTPUNT AND DAAIBOOI TO MENTION A FEW.  THE SNORKELING AND DIVING BUSINESS IN BANDABOU IS BOOMING. ALSO WITH HORSE RIDING, KAYAK, BICYCLING, MOUNTING, JOGGING AND JUST WALKING THE HILL SIDES AND CLIMBING THE TALLEST MOUNTAIN CALLED SAINT CHRISTOFFEL.  FURTHERMORE YOU CAN ADMIRE LOTS OF TROPICAL BIRDS AND FLAMINGOS SETTLING ON THE SITE OF ‘JAN KOK’ AREA.

OTHERWISE  CONSIDER NEW OPEN DOORS – VISITING  ARTISTS AND HEALING CENTERS AND SPORTS CLUBS.

FEW OF US, THE ARTISTS HAVE THEIR STUDIO- HOUSES OPEN TO VIEW  PAINTINGS, STROLL IN OUR GARDENS AND SIT IN THE SHADE, HAVE A HOME MADE LEMONADE WITH  LOT OF ICE.

IT’S USUALLY  HOT OUTSIDE BUT LATELY WE HAVE QUITE SOME RAIN AND ON DAYS LIKE ‘DIA DI BANDABOU’  THEY USUALLY SAY  ‘IT’S  THE TIME FOR COMING RAIN’ – AND IT IS. THUS FROM OCTOBER  STARTS THE PLANTING  FOR LITTLE CORN; UNTIL DECEMBER OR JANUARY AND WHEN  HARVESTING ARRIVES, IT’S REAPING THE CROP.  LASTLY FOLLOWS MARCH OR APRIL WITH PARADE’S ENTRANCE OF FEASTING WHILE BLESSING THE GROUND FOR IT’S DELIVERED FOOD. THAT MEANS STROLLING DOWN THE ROADS, MARCHING THE TINY STREETS, SINGING ‘HAY MAILO’ , THAT’S WHERE THE ‘LITTLE CORN’ SONG COMES FROM AND OFF WE GO TAKING PICTURES.
